To update Members on the Member Training Budget.

Minutes:

The Corporate Services Group Manager presented the Budget Update. It was noted that the budget for the forthcoming year would be slightly reduced as agreed at the previous meeting.

Member Induction Programme - By-Election May 2021 pdf icon PDF 217 KB

For Members to consider the draft Induction Plan for the By-Election of the Stanton and Flamville Ward.

Minutes:

The Senior Democratic & Scrutiny Services Officer presented the Member Induction Programme Document for the By-Election in May 2021.

 

Cllr. Nick Brown questioned whether the ending of Council meetings via Zoom in May would affect the current programme.

 

The Corporate Services Manager assured members that this is being worked on currently and that once these decisions have been made that the members would be updated. The Corporate Services Manager also advised that they may have to amend and update the programme to suit future guidance on how meetings will be held.

 

The Chairman, Cllr David Findlay suggested that a guide be developed to assist Members on Council Procedure Rules, if face-face meetings were to resume for newer Members elected in May 2019.

 

Cllr. Mat Mortel agreed with the suggestion that that the newly elected member will be allocated a buddy from the Democratic Services Team. Cllr. Mat Mortel then continued with suggestions on how to improve the Member Induction Programme with the following comments:

 

·         A Quick Start Guide – e.g. I.T

·         A Contact Detail list of frequently contacted individuals and services.

·         A more user-friendly guide, including links to the E-Learning website, information on committees where you need to commit to training, and frequency of meetings

·         A table/document demonstrating which e-learning modules are essential or optional.

 

The Senior Democratic & Scrutiny Services Officer thanked Cllr. Mat Mortel for his suggestions and would consider incorporating them in the programme.

Member Personal Development Appraisals (PDA's) pdf icon PDF 107 KB

For Members to consider and feedback a plan of commencing Personal Development Appraisal’s within each Group.

Minutes:

The Senior Democratic & Scrutiny Services Officer presented the Member Personal Development Appraisals (PDA’s) and requested feedback from  Group Whips  on what assistance they may need when completing the PDA’s.

 

Members discussed the significance of completing the PDA’s and most importantly it results in a tailored training programme based on member’s needs and corporate requirements.

 

The Corporate Services Manager advised members to discuss with their Group’s what would be most beneficial for them out of this exercise and to also encourage all members to participate in the PDA’s.

 

The Democratic Services Team would be preparing the forms to be sent out to the Group Whips, and would provide assistance as required.

Minutes:

The Senior Democratic & Scrutiny Services Officer presented the table of Future Courses to members and assured them that the list of online training modules will be amended to show which are essential and high priority for members.

 

The Safeguarding online module would be launched following Annual Council.
