Minute Silence for Barry Garner

Minutes:

The Chairman invited Members and Officers to hold a minute silence for the late Barry Garner who sadly passed away on 9 August 2021. Barry was a District Councillor for the Narborough and Littlethorpe Ward between 1991 and 2019, and Chairman of the Council during 1999, 2010 and 2011. The Council awarded the title of Honorary Alderman to Barry Garner for his eminent services in May 2019. Barry will be sadly missed by all those that knew him.

4.

Chairman's Announcements

Minutes:

The Chairman announced that he had attended two events recently at;

 

·         Belvoir Castle, 26th August with the Duke of Rutland.

·         Oakham Castle in September.

 

The Chairman expressed that there have been several cancellations but he is looking forward to attending future events.

 

The Chairman informed Members that there is a charity event being held on 12 November at Poachers Brasserie, Thurlaston, organised by Cllr. Maggie Wright where proceeds will be donated to the Chairman’s Charity; Rainbows.

Minutes:

The Leader, Cllr. Terry Richardson, expressed his condolences to everyone who knew the late Barry Garner and his family. He expressed his gratitude to be able to work alongside him for many years and acknowledged the dedication Barry Garner had to serving the public.

 

The Leader commented on this being the last Council meeting that the Corporate Services Group Manager and Monitoring Officer was attending after 30 years at the Council and thanked him for his service to the Council.

 

The Leader of the Council, Cllr. Terry Richardson, presented his Statement in respect of the following:

 

·         Blaby gives it’s support to the Resettlement Scheme for Afghanistan Refugees

·         A Place To Grow Community Open Day a Success!

·         Events

·         Blaby launches new website for Melton Borough Council

·         Carbon Literacy Training

·         Buried Bouskell Project

·         The Old Bank (The Grange)

·         Carbon Footprint

·         Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure

·         Blaby Help to Heat Homes

 

 

The Leader informed Members that officers at Blaby District Council are working hard to support the Resettlement Scheme for Refugees from Afghanistan.  

 

The Leader informed Members of the success of the A Place To Grow Community Open Day in Enderby and also praised the success of the Cosby Yarn Bomb event that brought visitors from across the country, as well as the Victory Show held in Cosby too.

 

Members gave special thanks to the Corporate Services Group Manager and Monitoring Officer for his service at Blaby District Council.

 

Members expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the late Barry Garner, and also spoke of their gratitude of being able to work with him for many years.

 

The Vice-Chairman, Cllr. Iain Hewson gave special mention to the Corporate Services Group Manager and Monitoring Officer for all his help when he was chairing the Council through the pandemic.

 

The Corporate Services Group Manager and Monitoring Officer thanked all members for their messages.
